Buddy Knox
Biography
Buddy Knox first picked up a guitar at just ten
years of age. His big ambition was to "play like Chuck Berry".
Despite the challenge of practising on an old worn 'Toomelah mission
axe', which was minus a string, Buddy's' goal to play persisted with
his natural talent flourishing.
Music and playing guitar became Buddy's' life, from humble
beginnings, his Mum showing him how to play his first three chords,
then by teaching himself. His passion for guitar: his own natural
gift, and with music an important aspect of his life, Buddy's
destiny with the guitar was set.
The rest is history!
The Blues
Buddy's fervour for blues has been simmering for most of his guitar years, and finally in 2006, Buddy committed to being an Artist and to head up the Buddy Knox Blues Band. His years of guitar playing and singing harmonies was great preparation for him to commit to his big dream of this own Blues Band....
"I haven't got the blues...the blues have got me!"
Since then Buddy's progress in his two years has
been pretty exciting.
Buddy won the Best New Talent Category
In the Australian Blues 'Chain' Awards at Goulburn in February 09,
also a finalist for the Best Male Vocal Category.
His debut album 'got da blues' also gained him finalist selection
for Best Producer in conjunction with his recording engineer Gareth
Hudson. The Album also won the Newcastle Blues Awards Album of the
Year.

Buddy's blues influences include all the Kings: Freddie, Albert and BB. Robert Delbert McClinton. He has a vast blues knowledge of the old blues men and a great respect for their work.
Buddy plays a Gibson 335, it's a beautiful instrument he treasures,
with the evidence of hard playing on the back (check the wearing
finish!).
He is extremely proud of his talented and youthful backing Band, the
Knoxes: son Teangi on L5S Gibson guitar, and nephew twins, Bareki,
drums and Didg, and Barega Fender Bass. Stepping up to the plate for
the ladies is Fiona who plays Accordion and cameo bass. (Her big job
is actually managing the Band).
Described as Australia's answer to BB King!!
Buddy's Early History:
His musical foundation started with his Father Roger Knox, and the
Band Euraba. As a teenager, Buddy found himself immersed in serious
music. Buddy had REAL hands on experience, thrown
in at the deep end, when his Father was badly burned in a plane
crash whilst touring, and was unable to play guitar (actually, Roger
survived TWO crashes in the one day), Buddy had to "learn it
quick".
By his own admission, school just wasn't for Buddy, and at just 15
he started his jet jumping national and international musical
career. Today, the blues master's passion, style and talent is
obvious with three decades of music under his belt.
touring nationally and internationally with many artists,...to name
a few...the Warumpi Band, and their Big Day Out Tours, Troy Cassar
Daley, Paul Kelly, major festivals, Roger Knox, a six week stint in
Canada, gigs in London and Nashville, countless 'Big House'
performances (Correctional Centres), and with national and regional
touring experiences in between.
He has back many artists including: Slim Newton, Kev Carmody, Auriel
Andrew, Jimmy Little, Bobby McLeod, Col Hardy, Gordon Parsons, Stan
Coster, Vic Simms, Johny Huckle,
Tony Wallsley, Marcia ('Marcia and the Cookies'), Savannah Doolan, Wanita,
Jason Scott, Darren Clarke, and Lionel Rose.
It has all given Buddy plenty of stage experience as a lead
guitarist and a lifetime of travelling adventures, rubbing shoulders
with many big names!
